San Diego Humane Society opens behavior center and other business briefs

The San Diego Humane Society opened a new state-of-the-art Behavior Center at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at its San Diego Campus, 5465 Gaines St.

San Diego Humane Society is home to the only comprehensive behavioral rehabilitation program in San Diego County. With this new facility, SDHS hopes to make strides in helping at-risk animals.

The new behavior center was designed to remove noise, predictability, and other stimulating barriers to help animals who suffer from anxiety, fear, resource guarding, and overstimulation.

San Diego Humane Society is committed to providing animals with necessary behavioral rehabilitation in order to be adopted. This new center, along with SDHS’s larger behavior program, works to ensure zero euthanasia of healthy, treatable animals in San Diego County.

LOVING HANDS VETERINARY SERVICES TO BE NAMED ANIMALTARIAN OF THE YEAR

On Sunday, Sept. 29, the Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE) will honor local San Diego animal heroes. On the list of honorees is Loving Hands Veterinary Services.

Dr. Tiffany Palozzi and Dr. Stephanie Schneider are the pair behind Loving Hands Veterinary Services, which provides in-home euthanasia services for beloved pets. Because they understanding the importance of life, Loving Hands was immediately supportive of FACE’s mission of saving pets facing economic euthanasia.

The company participates in FACE’s In-Memory Program, providing a donation to FACE when their patients pass on, which in turn helps to give the gift of life to a future pet in need. Dr. Palozzi and her family are also frequent volunteers at FACE’s fundraising events. The staff and veterinarians at Loving Hands are empathetic, compassionate, and immensely giving – true Animaltarians!

In addition to honoring Loving Hands Veterinary Services, the Animaltarian Awards will also be recognizing La Jolla Veterinary Hospital and local TV personality & San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles Magazine Pet Columnist Sandie Lampe for their work in the animal community. The event will be held at a beautiful oceanside estate in La Jolla, featuring cocktails, hor d’oeuvres, and a silent auction with one-of-a-kind animal encounter experiences. All animal lovers are invited to this fun event!

Registration for the event is available online at face4pets.org. General admission is $100, and VIP tickets are $300. VIPs will receive early admission, a private tour of one of the finest private collections of African and pre-Columbian art in California, and a tour of the estate’s exotic bird aviary.

Proceeds from the Animaltarian Awards benefit the FACE Foundation, a 501(c)(3) San Diego non-profit that provides financial assistance for pets in need of life-saving veterinary care. To date, FACE has assisted over 2,415 local pets in need. Those looking to make a tax-deductible donation can call (858) 450-3223 or email [email protected].

DEL MAR NATIONAL HORSE SHOW WELCOMES NEW HUNTER/JUMPER MANAGER

Patrick Boyle, the owner of Showplace Productions, was recently named the new manager for the 2020 Del Mar National Horse Show’s Hunter/Jumper Week. He replaces Dale Harvey, of West Palms Event Productions, who served as the Del Mar National’s Hunter/Jumper manager for 20 outstanding years of service.

“We are delighted to welcome Pat Boyle as our new Hunter/Jumper Manager,” said Amy Billburg, Equestrian Manager for the Del Mar Fairgrounds. “Pat came to us with exciting concepts for our Hunter/Jumper show, and he’s known throughout the equestrian industry for his innovative ideas inside the arena.”

2020 will mark the 75th anniversary of the Del Mar National Horse Show, which will kick off its three-week run on April 14, 2020. The iconic horse show brings together many of the most accomplished, athletic and revered horse and rider teams to compete for coveted trophies. Nearly 1,500 horses from various countries have been competing in the three-week show, which runs through May 3, 2020, for more than $300,000 in cash and prizes.

Boyle is the owner of Showplace Productions, one of the top horse show management companies in the U.S. Showplace produces more than 30 Hunter and Jumper competitions every year at numerous venues throughout the country. Signature venues include Balmoral Equestrian Center and Ledges Sporting Horses & Show Grounds in Illinois, the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada and now the Del Mar National Horse Show.

“I am very excited to work with the staff at Del Mar and I’ve heard so much about the history represented by the perpetual trophies that the show offers,” Boyle said. “Together, we are going to work to bring new energy to this storied venue.”

Boyle managed the Lamplight Equestrian Center for more than 20 years before partnering with HITS Production Company to redevelop the Balmoral Equestrian Center. He also managed the Colorado Horse Park until its sale to Equestrian Sport Productions.

Boyle is a large “R” official in the USEF Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation disciplines and is a USEF licensed course designer. He currently serves as the USEF Zone V Chairman and serves on the USHJA Competition Management, USHJA Show Standards, USHJA Awards, and the USHJA Zone Hunter Council committees. He loves to donate his facilities and time to important offerings, including the Emerging Athletes Program and clinics throughout the year. He was named USHJA Volunteer of the Year 2018 for his dedication to making the inaugural USHJA National Championship a huge success.

Boyle brings a horseman’s perspective to his leadership of Showplace Productions. Before his horse show management career began 30 years ago, he ran his family’s Spring Hill Farm where he oversaw the care of more than 100 horses, visited horse shows nationwide and campaigned on the Grand Prix Circuit.
