The San Diego Yacht Club is giving some of the world’s best sailors a place to compete in the 2006 Lands’ End National Offshore One Design (NOOD) Regatta Series. The series of sailboat races will measure local sailors against those from around the world, sailing vessels of similar or identical design.
The Regatta Series is based on the idea that the competing sailors’ boats have a consistent design, making the race a reflection the skill of the sailors rather than the speed of the boat. The San Diego Regatta will be the second of nine Lands’ End NOOD events throughout North America in 2006.
The Regatta Series will welcome sailors from San Diego all the way to Australia. The Regatta series will consist of 10 events in which up to 17 different boat types will compete on San Diego’s waters. The series has prepared three different sailing courses, which are located in the San Diego Bay, Coronado Roads and San Diego’s Open Ocean. More than 150 boats are expected to participate in the event.
Spectators can watch the event from their own boats or from the shore of the San Diego Bay course. The event is scheduled for March 17-19 and will last from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on each day. For more information, call the San Diego Yacht Club at (619) 221-8400.
