World No. 2, 2019 PGA Tour FedExCup champion and 2019 PGA Tour Player of the Year Rory McIlroy has committed to the 2020 tournament, set for Jan. 22-26 at Torrey Pines Golf Course.
World No. 21 Rickie Fowler and two-time Farmers Insurance Open champion Jason Day have also committed to the tournament.
McIlroy, whose 18 PGA Tour wins include four major championships (2011 U.S. Open, 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship), returns to Torrey Pines after finishing T5 in his Farmers Insurance Open debut in 2019. The 30-year-old from Northern Ireland became the second player to win multiple PGA Tour FedExCup championships last year and won three PGA Tour events in 2019 – The Players Championship, RBC Canadian Open and The Tour Championship.
Also in the 2018-19 PGA Tour season, McIlroy won the Byron Nelson Award for adjusted scoring average (69.057) for the third time in his career and led the PGA Tour in top-10s (14) and strokes gained: Total (2.551).
McIlroy joins a field that currently includes 12 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings and 20 players among the top 30 in the 2019-20 FedExCup points standings. There are also seven past Farmers Insurance Open winners committed, as well as nine players who have accounted for 17 major championship victories.
Fowler is a five-time winner on the PGA Tour who also has three international victories on his resume and has played in four Ryder Cup teams and three Presidents Cup teams. His 2018-19 season featured six top-10 finishes in 20 starts, including his victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. His best performance at the Farmers Insurance Open was in 2010, when he finished T5.
Day, the 2015 PGA Championship winner and 12-time PGA Tour winner, returns to Torrey Pines after finishing T5 in the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open. The 32-year-old Australian recorded four top-five results in 21 starts on the 2018-19 PGA Tour, including a T5 at the Masters, and placed T8 at The Players Championship last year. He won the Farmers Insurance Open in 2015 and 2018.

San Diego products committed to the Farmers Insurance Open include Fowler, Jamie Lovemark, Phil Mickelson, Pat Perez, Xander Schauffele and J.J. Spaun.
The field is not final until the commitment deadline on Friday, Jan. 17 at the conclusion of play in that week’s tournament.
