Lucky Pup Dog Rescue, whose North Park founders have spared 200 dogs from euthanasia in San Bernardino County shelters, will open San Diego’s first retail dog adoption center Sunday, Aug. 30, at the nonprofit company’s new location, 3358 Governor Drive in University City. Owners Steve and Christine Haslet have been working from their North Park home since 2011, when they adopted a dog from a San Bernardino County shelter and found that many of the animals were euthanized soon after their arrivals. They have developed a network of adopters, donors and volunteers designed to place the dogs in “forever” homes, with the retail outlet ideally directing attention to the animals’ dilemma. “It is our hope that with the increased exposure of a retail outlet, many more lives will be saved,” Christine Haslet said. “Additionally, those who aren’t comfortable going to a shelter will find a homey environment, dogs groomed, pups who have been spayed/neutered and ready for adoption.” The Aug. 30 event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. More information is available at LuckyPupDogRescue.com and at (619) 756-6376.
