YOU KNOW those incredibly high palm trees on Bayard Street and Pacific Beach Drive? Tom Scripps told me, I think, his family planted them in 1908. Here’s a rare aerial from around 1920 that shows Braemar, the Scripps family estate, where the Catamaran Hotel is today. I’m guessing this is about 1920, because the streetcar was extended to La Jolla in 1923 and Crystal Pier was built in 1926. At the top of the photo are three houses on Garnet Avenue, one of which is today’s PB Bar & Grill.
