I EXPECT MOST OF YOU recognize the Victorian home on the corner of Law and Ingraham streets. I call it the Hinkle House. It’s one of the few historic Pacific Beach homes that I actually know the age of. It was built in 1896 — but not on that site. Victor Hinkle, listed in the city directory as a fruit grower, had the house built at 1620 Chalcedony St. Mrs. Hinkle was our first librarian. The home was moved to its present location in the early 1920s. Rumor had it that Mr. Hinkle thought he’d worked a deal to sell the Chalcedony property for the school that is today’s Pacific Beach Middle School.
