As the Peninsula Community Planning Board election nears, I feel a need to point out a telling comment in Geoff Page’s letter (appearing in the Beacon on May 31). Mr. Page states: “… the board has little, if any, power. I’ve been on the board a year and have seen us be ignored by the Planning Commission and the City Council on a number of issues we felt strongly about.” This is a true statement and is indicative of why the community is lobbying for a change.
The current board has made our Peninsula Community Planning Board irrelevant. No one Downtown listens to the incumbents. This really impacts Point Loma, because we have lost a quasi-official voice to the Planning Board and City Council. A perfect example of their gross incompetence is the mess they made of the March election, which has resulted in a need for Saturday’s replacement (run-off) election. After a full term on the board, the incumbents should, at the very least, know the bylaws well enough to vet candidates and run an election.
I plan to vote for change and ask your readers to do likewise. Please turn out at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 9, and turn out the incumbents.
