It’s soccer time, and Raglan Public House will begin broadcasting the World Cup 2014 games on all five of its wide-screen TVs! After the USA?defeat of Ghana on June 16, Raglan will broadcast the U.S. versus Portugal showdown on Sunday, June 22 at 3 p.m, and the U.S. versus Germany on Thursday, June 26, at 9 a.m. “You can watch all the USA games here,” said general manager Mikey Zouroudis. “We showed the Xolo’s games, so it seemed like a natural progression. During the Xolo’s games, we had about 20 people who came to watch with us regularly, and a good time was had by all.”
“There are sports bars around the neighborhood, but if you love soccer, just come on down and join us,” he said.
Raglan’s will offer food and drink specials during all the games. These include $12.50 select pitchers and $6 wing specials. On select days, there will be $3 Jameson shots and other surprises.
You may know San Diego is home to a strong multi-generational Portuguese community. What you may not know is that since 2010, the United Portuguese S.E.S., Inc. (UPSES) has sponsored its own soccer team, according to Sports Committee representative Chris Leal. Prior to 2010, the UPSES pulled together interested players, but “having a consistent team has really made a difference. “Due to the UPSES’ sponsorship, we now represent the Portuguese community in various California tournaments,” said Leal. “The USA versus Portugal game is exciting for all of us; for the USA games as well as Portugal’s,” he said. “We’ll be showing all the games throughout and the UPSES will have its bar open. Starting next week, we’ll be serving Portuguese steak sandwiches, sausage sandwiches and a few special traditional dishes.”
Raglan Public House is located on the corner of Bacon Street and Niagara Avenue at 1851 Bacon St. in Ocean Beach. For more information, call (619) 794-2304, or visit their website at raglanpublichouse.com.
For more information about the UPSES Sports Committee, contact Leal at [email protected], or visit www.epses.com. The UPSES team is managed by Silva, and you can find out more from their website at sites.google.com/-site/upsessoccer/home.
