A couple of scholastic boys water polo teams have sunk victories over the last week.
At La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School, the Torreys entered play this week with a mark of 4-2 for head coach Nate Heppner.
LJCD defeated Mar Vista 19-7 last Wednesday, with seniors Ronny Clausner and Vivan Suri leading all scorers with eight goals and six goals, respectively.
Two days later, LJCD dropped an 8-5 decision to Mission Bay. Playing most of the second half without leading scorer Suri, who fouled out shortly after halftime, the Torreys were able to hang tough, mounting a fourth quarter comeback that fell short when Mission Bay was able to score two late shorthanded goals.
La Jolla High (10-2) started last week with an 11-7 win over Bonita of Orange County.
High scorers were Noah Orloff and Peter Sefton with three goals each.
The Vikings played in the America’s Finest City Tournament this past weekend.
La Jolla lost its first game to Loyola of L.A., 11-9.
The Vikings then won four games straight, beating Valhalla, Fallbrook, Tokay of Sacramento and Santa Fe Christian.
Hunter Gettlefinger was La Jolla’s player of the tournament, netting nine goals over the weekend, 10 assists and 17 steals.
