The shroud of mystery surrounding the future of the Nati’s Mexican Restaurant site has cleared.
Steven Torres, founder of the Pop Pie Company in University Heights has announced an expansion of his eatery into Ocean Beach on the sizable parcel at Bacon and Niagara streets where the former Mexican restaurant was located for 58 years.
Following the recent second anniversary of his Pop Pie restaurant, Torres said he will open a 3,600-square-foot facility that will include his five-inch meat, vegetarian and vegan pies. 
Also, his four-inch sweet hand pies and 3.5 inch sweet pies will be offered. Breakfast pies are served in the morning. Torres notes every pie is made with all-butter crusts.
The pies are paired with fresh-made sides and salads. Craft beers will also be available.
The new addition to the Ocean Beach restaurant scene will also serve seasonally changing coffees and ice cream. Strollers will be able to order both from a walk-up window.
Another section will house a horseshoe-shaped cocktail bar, and a wrap-around patio is planned with seating for 130 customers.
Torres notes construction is expected to be completed late this year or early in 2019.
The company’s motto is “In pie we crust.”
This site, much larger than the original location, will allow Torres and co-founder/executive chef Gan Suebsarakham to add more options to the offerings at Pop Pie Company. Also planned on the all-day cafe menu are British-inspired small plates, brunch dishes, biscuits and other baked goods.
Plans also include the hosting of special events in the adjacent parking lot.
