The identity of the man shot and killed by police after threatening people with a box cutter at a Mission Valley pharmacy has been released by San Diego police. Robert Hober, 54, of San Diego, was shot and killed by officer Eric Oberndorfer the early morning of Aug. 28 when he began advancing toward the lawman after chasing a CVS employee with his weapon. The store is located in the 5600 block of Mission Center Road near Westside Drive. Oberndorfer, a 15-year police department veteran, saw the suspect with the weapon in his hand and told the suspect to drop it, but he ignored the command and “quickly advanced on the officer” while pointing the blade toward him, police Lt. Mike Hastings said. The officer ran to the rear of his patrol car, but the suspect kept advancing, prompting the officer to open fire, Hastings said. The shooting was investigated by homicide detectives, which is protocol with all officer-involved shootings regardless of whether anyone is fatally wounded.
