Detectives from the San Diego Police Department’s Northern Division and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a suspect wanted for a number of alleged peeping tom incidents and sexual assaults Thursday, Feb. 22.
Police arrested Eduardo Castillo Herrarte, 33, was arrested for immigration violations after detectives began surveillance at his Lemon Grove home. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center downtown on an immigration hold while the District Attorney’s office begins the process of preparing charges.
After police released a sketch of the suspect on Feb. 15 asking for the public’s help finding the suspect wanted in at least 10 cases since April 2006, a Pacific Beach resident contacted authorities the next day and reported seeing him in the area.
According to police, the caller witnessed Herrarte peeping into neighbor’s home in February 2005 and photographed him in the act. She reported Herrarte to police, who arrived to interview with the suspect, but no action was taken.
The same witness contacted police again last month to inform them that she had seen Herrarte In the neighborhood west of Ingraham Street and south of Grand Avenue as recently as two months ago.
It was that tip that lead police to Herrarte.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Herrarte has been arrested three times, twice for driving under the influence and once for the solicitation of a prostitute. Herrarte, a native of Guatemala, had been deported twice.
