Losing four of their final six games, Point Loma High’s baseball team (15-12 overall) met a North County team in a “play-in” game, which could see its season come to an abrupt end.
The game, something head coach David Wells was hoping to avoid, was played Tuesday of this week, after The Peninsula Beacon’s press time.
Falling to third place in Western League standings, the CIF Div. II seeding committee awarded the Pointers a No. 6 seed, setting up the match against No. 11 seed Mission Hills (14-14 overall).
Because Mission Hills tied for the Avocado East League title, it will host the game despite being seeded lower. The winner of this game continues into the double-elimination playoffs, where they were set to face No. 3 El Capitan on Wednesday. The Vaqueros received a first-round bye as a top-four seed.
Western League foe La Jolla, which won two of three from the Pointers this season, received the No. 1 seed, with San Ysidro No. 2 and Scripps Ranch No. 4.
