On May 11, Point Loma High School Pointer junior varsity baseball player Austin Correia lived every pitcher’s dream when he threw a perfect game at La Jolla. Correia faced the minimum 21 batters, and not one of them reached first base. He struck out seven Vikings in a 7-0 Pointer win. “It was incredible,” Correia said later. “It was the best I’ve felt while pitching, and all my pitches were on fire. “I’ve been playing baseball as long as I can remember going back to my grandma’s back yard with my cousins. The closest I have come to perfection before was a no-hitter during all-stars for Point Loma Little League.”
