Point Lomans will help reach out to Ramona cancer victim, 9

Peninsula residents will open their hearts during “Taylor Hay Day,” planned for Saturday, Aug. 9, to benefit the 9-year-old Ramona girl diagnosed with rare pediatric cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The single-day, multiple-location event ” including a benefit concert in Point Loma ” will also involve a run/walk event at Miramar Lake.
The multiple-venue event was spurred by the combined efforts of Scripps Ranch High School senior Suki Hoffman and a Hay family friend, Carrie Gallison. Both organizers were looking for avenues to help the Hay family during their time of need.
The run/walk was Hoffman’s contribution, as part of a graduation requirement. She was tasked to complete a project involving giving back to the community.
Gallison, capitalizing on her musical connections, is organizing the benefit concert at Riley’s Music Lounge, 2901 Nimitz Blvd. in Point Loma at 8 p.m.
Gallison’s husband is a member of The Stalker Dan Band ” one of the featured entertainers for the benefit concert. Carrie joined Hoffman to create “Taylor Hay Day” in which the community could take part in Taylor’s fight against cancer.
“[Taylor] is not the kind of kid that expects things to happen,” said Debbie Britt-Hay, Taylor’s mother.
“So, when people go out of their way to do something for her, she’s incredibly appreciative of it,” Debbie continued.
The run/walk and barbecue will take place at Miramar Lake beginning at 4 p.m.
Joining The Stalker Dan Band for the benefit concert at Riley’s will be Run For Cover.
To help offset Taylor’s medical and related expenses, all profits from the $10 concert admission ” along with the bands’ usual fee ” will be donated to the Taylor Hay Trust Fund.
A 50/50 raffle will be held at $5 a ticket.
Run/walk entry forms, admission and raffle tickets are available for purchase at www.believeintaylor.org.
