Point Loma Association receives $60K for Anchor Lights project

The Point Loma Association (PLA) received a $60,000 grant from the County of San Diego for their upcoming transformational project in the community, themed Anchor Lights, on Rosecrans Street.
Since its founding in 1960, the PLA has worked diligently to enhance the quality of life for peninsula residents, businesses and visitors through the implementation of strategic and impactful public space improvements. The new project, Anchor Lights, is in a reference to the nautical history of the peninsula.
“This incredibly generous grant from County Supervisor Cox provides essential project funding, getting the PLA much closer to making Anchor Lights a reality for our community,” said JT Barr, Point Loma Association board member and project lead.
This multi-phased project includes the installation of a series of string lights across Rosecrans Street from Talbot to Cañon Street. The Anchor Lights project will not only be one of the most significant capital projects in PLA history, it will also bring a lifestyle transformation and place-making to the entire community. Much like its nautical inspiration, Anchor Lights creates a beacon of light signifying the presence and importance of the historic Point Loma Village.
“This project will create a festive, attractive gateway, further enhancing community pride and becoming a beacon lighting the way for Point Loma’s visitors,” said County Supervisor Greg Cox, who was behind the funding for the project.
The total projected project cost is $240,000, which will be divided into two phases. Given the significant scope of the project the PLA requested support from the County in the amount of $60,000 in order to complete the design and receive necessary government approvals. Funding support through the Neighborhood Reinvestment Program (NRP) will significantly enhance the momentum and energy surrounding the project.
For more information or to donate to the project, visit PointLoma.org or contact the PLA at 619-736-1752.
