The Point Loma Nazarene University’s (PLNU) women’s volleyball team has been named the Pacific West Conference preseason favorite to win the league in 2014, according to the coaches’ poll released Aug. 26. PLNU received 160 points to narrowly edge defending conference champions BYU-Hawaii.
The Sea Lions also had three student-athletes named to the seven-person Preseason All-PacWest Team. Savannah Wedemeyer was named the preseason Setter of the Year, while Alyssa Dwyer and Heather Leavitt joined her on the preseason all-conference team as a middle blocker and outside hitter, respectively.
Point Loma received five of the 13 first-place votes and was ranked second or better on 12 of the 13 ballots to accumulate its 160 points. BYU-Hawaii received seven first-place votes, while Fresno Pacific received the other.
