PLNU track & field closes home schedule in style

Emily Loogman moved into seventh place on the Point Loma women’s track and field all-time list with a time of 1:02.62 in the 400m hurdles on Saturday at the 2015 PLNU Invitational (March 28).
Loogman’s time moved her to the top of the PacWest Performance List, one second better than her nearest competitor. She placed second at the meet and passed former teammate and current coach Lindsay Honea on her ascent up the Sea Lions’ top 10 list.
The senior from Etna, Calif. (Etna HS), also had a career-best throw in the javelin with a mark of 118-3 (36.05m) on her home field. That moved her to fourth on the 2015 PacWest Performance List. Loogman then helped Point Loma’s 4×400 relay team of Alexia Avila, Erin Beezhold and Demi White close out the meet with a time of 4:00.72 to move to third in the PacWest.
This also capped a quality day for Avila, who had a career-best time of 26.87 in the 200m and a season-best mark of 13.46 in the 100m. She moved to eight and ninth on the PacWest Performance List in those events, respectively.
Lauren Levenson had a PR in the 100m dash with a time of 13.27. She now sits eight in the PacWest.
Other Sea Lions to register season-bests on Saturday included Morgan Brandt (1:02.18) in the 400m, Hallie Swenson (2:24.52) and Brielle Budroe (2:25.53) in the 800m, Jessica Kroeckel (5:10.35) and Caty Carruth (5:22.63) in the 1500m and Janie Unkefer (1:07.95) in the 400m hurdles.
As a team PLNU placed ninth out of 14 teams with 116 points. George Fox won the women’s competition with 235 points and MIT won the men’s with 264 points. The meet featured over 1,100 entries and nearly 600 student-athletes.
“I think this was the largest meet we ever hosted,” said Point Loma head coach Jerry Arvin. “With all the student-athletes we had it went really well.
“We have had nothing but positive comments from all the teams that attend on the facility, the weather and how smoothly the meet ran,” coach Arvin added. “All the teams enjoyed themselves and ran really well. That is what we hope for when we host these meets.”
