PLNU tennis players claim all-region honors

Honea and Van Wey earn All-American honors Lindsay Honea and Jennifer Van Wey brought All-American honors back to Point Loma after finishing in the top three in their respective events at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Track and Field Championships. Honea placed second in the heptathlon with 4,398 points over the two-day event. She won the 100-meter hurdles, placed second in the high jump and third in both the 200-meter and the javelin. Van Wey ran a career-best time of 24.61 in the 200-meter dash to place third and earn her All-American honors. Honea and Van Wey helped lead the PLNU women to a ninth-place finish at the NCCAA championships. Four Sea Lion tennis players earn all-region awards Maika Adair, Hope Penner, Brooks Baldinger and Jakob Kevelaerts were named to the NCCAA All-West Region tennis team. Adair picked up first-team honors after playing the No. 1 singles spot throughout the season for PLNU and going 10-12. Penner, Kevelaerts and Baldinger were all named to the all-region second team. PLNU hosts inaugural PacWest Track and Field Championships Point Loma Nazarene University had the privilege to host the inaugural PacWest Conference Track and Field Championships on April 26 and 27. The Sea Lions welcomed in five other conference opponents to compete for the title on the men’s and women’s side. Grand Canyon won both the men’s and women’s team competitions. PLNU’s Lindsay Honea and Derek DeShaw won the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively, to help PLNU sweep the multi-events. Honea was also named the PacWest Female Field Athlete of the Meet after setting the conference meet record with 4,880 points in the heptathlon. PLNU to offer summer camps The Point Loma Athletic Department will offer a number of camps in all sports over the summer to help assist local youth in their skill development. Camps will begin June 14 and last through the middle of August. For a complete list of summer camps being offered at PLNU, visit www.plnusealions.com/camps.
