The Point Loma baseball team became just the second Sea Lion men’s team to be ranked in the top 25 of an NCAA sanctioned poll, when they debuted at No. 21 on the Collegiate Baseball poll on April 13. The Sea Lions also found themselves in 25th on National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll after opening the year at 30-7 and putting together a 17-game winning streak.
Despite dropping three of four last week to Fresno Pacific, Point Loma remains ranked as they sit 29th in this week’s Collegiate Baseball poll. The NCBWA national poll will be released on April 21.
Regionally, Point Loma is tied for fourth in the NCBWA poll with Fresno Pacific. The first official NCAA Regional poll will be released April 22. The baseball team joined the PLNU men’s basketball team and the women’s tennis team as the only teams PLNU teams to be ranked in the NCAA top 25 this season. The men’s basketball team climbed as high as 22nd in the Dec. 2 National Association of Basketball Coaches poll and the women’s tennis team was 25th in the ITA poll.
This week the Sea Lion baseball team will welcome in California Baptist for a four-game series starting on Thursday, April 23. The teams will play single games on Thursday and Friday starting at 3 p.m., and then wrap up the series on Saturday (Apr. 25) with a doubleheader.
