This weekend will rock at Point Loma High “” literally.
Saturday, Sept. 16 will see two big football games “” JV at 1 p.m. and Varsity at 3:30 p.m. “” followed by the 2006 Kick Off with a ’50s theme. The post game party promises to be even bigger and more exciting than the past years, with additions to the traditional dinner and dance making the $8 students admission and $10 adult admission seem like a bargain.
The Kick Off is the only fund-raiser for the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and they are looking forward to once again helping the school with as many beyond-budget needs as possible.
Last year they helped build a new lab for the physics department and also purchased new furniture for the library, as well as helping a few seniors with college scholarships.
The Football Kick Off is not only a fund-raiser, but also a chance for the whole Point Loma to get to see some great football,” said Principal Bobbie Samilson.
Dinner will be catered by The Malt Shop of Point Loma, with tempting deserts by Humphrey’s to finish off the meal, and 1950s vintage cars on display for viewing throughout the evening.
The Kick Off would not be complete, however, without the requisite dance that follows the games.
“It’s the first school dance of the year and one of the few where the parents are really invited, and the kids actually let them come,” said event co-chair Diana Antonini.
A new addition to this year’s event is a dunk tank. Many teachers have already signed up to sit on the wet seat “” the rumored participation of Vice Principal Brian Mihalka will surely draw big crowds.
There will be more new attractions this year, including a skate park brought in by the Ocean Beach Skate Shop “” an additional $5 and permission slip will be required. The Party Rican will provide rockin’ tunes for the 50’s-themed dance and the cars of the same era.
So put on your poodle skirts and leather jackets, grease your hair back and roll your jeans up “” it’s time to sock hop with the Pointers.
