As league play continues after holiday tournaments, the Point Loma High School varsity boys’ basketball team finds itself sitting on a 5-5 overall record. Head coach Chris Brisco lost several talented athletes from last year’s team to graduation and this year’s team has shown moments of excellence, mixed with the struggles that come with a group of new starters. Included in the current record are two league victories in games played before the winter break. The Pointers hold victories over Madison (53-42) and Christian (48-46), both played on the road. They will host each team in the return match. In the annual Chula Vista Spartan Classic tournament held after Christmas, the Pointers defeated San Diego High (68-59) but fell short against both El Cajon Central (57-47) and Vista (62-34). However, at least five of Brisco’s players were not present for the tournament.
