Point Loma High’s Pointers will open the 2014 season right where they left off in 2013 — literally.
The Pointers will travel to Oceanside’s El Camino High School for their Aug. 29 season opener. On Nov. 15 the Wildcats ended the Dogs’ CIF playoff run with a heartbreaking 14-13 win.
The annual “Kickoff Game,” the Pointers’ only Saturday game next season, takes place Sept. 6 as last year’s CIF Div. I semi-finalist Ramona makes the long trek to Pete Ross Stadium. The triple-header begins at 10 a.m. with the freshman game, continues at 12:30 p.m. with junior varsity and concludes with the 3 p.m. varsity contest.
Plans are being made for the return of the annual night Homecoming game, set for Oct. 17 against longtime Western League rival La Jolla.
A bye week will give the Pointers a rest on Oct. 24 before they play a Halloween game Oct. 31 against Mission Bay.
The location of the Mission Bay game is in question because the Bucs are in the midst of an installation of their first-ever artificial turf field and construction of a new stadium. The project may not be finished until after the season, meaning the game may be moved to another site. Even still, the contest will remain a home game for the Bucs.
The regular season ends for the Pointers on the road against 2013 Western League champion Madison.
Besides the “Kickoff Game” and Homecoming, the three other home games will again honor first responders, PLHS staff and Point Loma cluster-school students. POINTERS VARSITY SCHEDULE FOR 2014
