The 36th annual Fur Ball Gala was presented at the San Diego Humane Society, 5500 Gaines St., on Oct. 1. Guests walked the red carpet with their fur ball companions all dressed to the nines. These pooches arrived in all shapes and sizes outfitted in their best evening wear and tuxedos. My favorite was the jailbird dog who was charged with being too cute!

Fran Deutsch and Carole Leland were honored as long-time friends and generous supporters of the San Diego Humane Society. Dr. Gary Weitzman who is the president and CEO of San Diego Humane Society, was there to greet everyone.

All the four-legged friends were given complimentary mats to lay on next to their owners as they enjoyed a vegetarian menu prepared by Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille. Meteorologist Dagmar Midcap, who anchors the weather on NBC 7, was the emcee and started the festivities. During the evening, Mark Drilling was the auctioneer for the live auction. One of the priceless items was to have chef Drew as your private chef in your home, and serve dinner for eight people.

Finishing on the stage, Midcap talked about 108 rescued beagles from Virginia that arrived at the Humane Society on Aug. 31. Some of the new owners were on the stage holding the beagles who have now been given a second chance. The evening concluded with a night of dancing. Haute Chile provided the music for this fun after-party.

The San Diego Humane Society is a nonprofit organization caring for more than 40,000 animals yearly. They are creating a more humane San Diego by providing vital services such as behavior programs, training, project wildlife, veterinary medicine, and shelter. Currently, they have 610 other animals for adoption including 182 dogs and six puppies. For more information, visit sdhumane.org.
