An open letter to the residents of Ocean Beach:
Having been a resident of OB since 1979, I am having a very hard time with how our community has been portrayed in the last few weeks.
There have been letters to the editor of the Beacon bemoaning the state of our neighborhood based on what was 10 to 30 years ago, being posed as what is going on today.
Do we have problems? Yes, we certainly do. Do we have improvements to make? Yes, we as a community have issues to deal with. Are we the drug-addled, homeless-infested community that some have tried to depict us as? The facts do not prove their position.
Ocean Beach crime statistics are lower than any other beach community in our district as reported by the SDPD. You can do the research for yourself by going to http://www.arjis.org and look at how our neighborhoods compare to the others in our area.
Should you still feel not enough is being done to improve, clean up, safeguard our children and our community, I urge you to get involved in the process. To sit on the sidelines without getting involved in working to improve our community and criticize those who are is the same as not voting and complaining about our elected government.
Are you going to sit on the sidelines and take shots at those who are working to better OB or be part of the solution?
