The Truman Center for National Policy, led by the San Diego Chapter of Truman National Security Project, along with elected officials, community leaders, veterans, and gold star families, will honor the people who died while serving in the armed forces by laying 30,000 roses on graves at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma at 5:30 a.m. Monday, May 29 in honor of Memorial Day. The Truman San Diego Memorial Day Sunrise Rose Drop began in 2015 with 1,000 roses and 20 participants. In 2016, they had 140 volunteers and 6,600 roses. This year they expect at least 400 percent growth in both volunteers and roses. The organization is still raising funds for roses and wreaths to be placed on notable graves.
