MONDAYS, beginning Sept. 16
The Point Loma United Methodist Church will play host to a series of classes that include essays, stories, interviews, hybrid poems and journals. Classes include yoga chair practices, contemplative walking, readings, discussions and writing exercises. Participants are urged to sign up for a minimun of four classes, which take place from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. The cost is $10 per class at the church, located at 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Register at [email protected]. WEDNESDAYS, beginning Sept. 18
The Point Loma United Methodist Church will play host to a series of classes in which participants will interview someone in the San Diego community and select a segment to perform. Classes will run from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. each Wednesday through Nov. 8 at the church, located at 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. No prior experience is required. The cost is $90. The Ocean Beach Historical Society will host a free program featuring noted anthropologist and historian Richard L. Carrico, who will present a lecture on the hidden past and mysteries of ancient San Diego County. Carrico will delve into possible meanings of prehistoric rock paintings (pictographs) and carvings (petroglyphs) that dot the landscape, and discuss Kumeyaay Indian knowledge of our vast universe and pharmacology. Point Loma High School will host its 46th class reunion from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Red Sails Inn on Shelter Island. RSVPs are requested as soon as possible and the cost is $10 per person. The Point Loma/Hervey Branch Library chess club meets in an informal format at 2 p.m. on the lower level of the library at the tables near the librarian’s desk. There are no memberships or dues. All ages and levels of players are welcome. The library provides some chess sets but players may bring their 3701 Voltaire St. Contact Mark Harryman at the library at (619) 531-1539.
