The Philanthropic Educational Organization EE chapter in Point Loma will host a yard sale to benefit college scholarships for local young women of academic excellence and great need. Organizers said there will be everything but the kitchen sink being sold beginning at 7 a.m. at 3549 Silvergate Place. For more information, call (619) 224-8408. WEDNESDAY, Nov. 6
• The Point Loma/Hervey Branch Library will host a free concert, “The Swingin’ With Dean Show,” featuring swing, jazz standards, blues, rock, funk and soul hits of great American artists from the 1940s to 1970s. Dean Ratzman performs all across North America, playing piano, trumpet, trombone and vocal. His audience rapport, humorous twist and style of arrangements provides a highly entertaining performance. Elke Ertle will introduce her new book, “Walled In: A West Berlin Girl’s Journey to Freedom,” during a free presentation at the Hervey/Point Loma Branch Library at 6:30 p.m. “Walled-In” weaves together the dramatic events of Germany and the fall of the Berlin Wall and her ultimate decision to choose freedom in the West.
