THURSDAY, June 20 The Ocean Beach Historical Society will host a special, free presentation on “Wonderland: The 100-Year Celebration!” Learn about D.C. Collier and his vision for Wonderland and Ocean Beach. Hear how Wonderland was affected by the famous 1916 flood and its relationship to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo — an important bit of three-year history that changed OB and San Diego forever. The program presenters are Pat James, president of the Ocean Beach Historical Society, and Jonnie Wilson, a historical society board member and author. The 7 p.m. event takes place at the Point Loma United Methodist Church, 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. For more information, visit obhistory.wordpress.com. SATURDAY, June 22 • The 34th annual Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off takes off on Saturday, June 22 and this year will celebrate the 100th anniversary of San Diego’s first amusement park, Wonderland. In honor of Wonderland, there will be a “Wonderland: Take Two” game area in Saratoga Park with a surf simulator, large inflatable slides and other attractions. One of the most popular activities is the painting of two annual Ocean Beach mural projects, which are hung in the community, with one of this year’s designs paying homage to Wonderland. For more information, call the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association at (619) 224-4906, or visit www.oceanbeachsandiego.com. • The Point Loma Artists Association will hold its annual “Art in the Park” exhibit featuring paintings, sculpture, glass, wood and textiles — all created by local artists.
