DOWNTOWN — An unidentified man was killed while walking on Pershing Drive near Florida Drive in the Balboa Park area Tuesday, July 27 shortly after 1 p.m. according to a San Diego Police Department (SDPD) report. A woman was driving her Lexus southbound in the number two lane on Pershing Drive as the victim was walking southbound in the bike lane on Pershing. The victim turned and looked at the approaching traffic, then ran directly into the oncoming vehicles, according to the report. The driver of the Lexus swerved to avoid him, but the man was struck and died of his injuries at the scene. The SDPD Traffic Division is investigating.
