The Pacific Beach Town Council (PBTC) will vote whether or not to support the 2006 PB Street Fair at its general members meeting Wednesday, March 15, 6:30 p.m. at Pacific Beach Middle School, 4676 Ingraham St.
Because of the expected turnout for the vote, the meeting has been moved from its regular meeting place at the Earl & Birdie Taylor Library.
The Street Fair was organized in response to the community’s reaction following the 2005 PB Block Party, which drew an estimated 200,000 people to Garnet Avenue for the annual event. Residents and business owners had a long a long list of complaints, including excessive trash and public drunkenness.
According to PBTC President Don Mullen, the PBTC Board of Directors has discussed the changes planned for the PB Street Fair twice and supports new event.
The proposed changes include a smaller, scaled-down event with reduction in live music stages from seven to two, requiring vendors to disclose all items on sale for the public while prohibiting objectionable items and a community state with events sponsored by local nonprofit groups.
Other proposed changes incorporated in the Street Fair include marketing the event to an older, more-family oriented audience through advertising and music selection.
The date has also been moved from May to April 22.
