PACIFIC BEACH — The Pacific Beach Planning Group’s (PBPG) monthly meeting discussed a variety of community planning and land use topics at its monthly meeting on Oct. 27. A look at the highlights from the meeting: • PBPG heard concerns presented by board member Scott Chipman regarding what he explained as the poor quality of the Mission Bay High School’s athletic campus. One example he cited was the track team not being able to host home track meets because its track is not up to the same standards as other area schools. The board, including Chipman, acknowledged that many schools in the San Diego Unified School District are in need of funding for campus upkeep. Chipman wanted the board to consider the condition of the campus as a planning problem, citing the board’s responsibility to address the school as part of its jurisdiction noting that schools should be considered part of the Pacific Beach Community Plan. No action was taken at the meeting. • Board member Marcie Beckett nominated fellow board member Diane Faulds to the position of Vice Chair and Faulds accepted the nomination. The board supported the nomination in a nearly unanimous vote. Eleven of the 12 board members in attendance voted Faulds into the post, but there was one abstention. Faulds politely abstained from the vote that solidified her new seat. PBPG meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Pacific Beach/Taylor Branch Library. However, due to the Thanksgiving holiday the November meeting will be postponed until the first or second week of December. The date and location of the postponed meeting will be posted at www.pbplanning.org once board members decide.
