More than 5,000 animal lovers and 2,000 of their four-legged friends will gather together to take part in San Diego Humane Society’s Walk for Animals: Paws in the Park on Saturday, May 9 in NTC Park at Liberty Station, 2455 Cushing Road, Point Loma.
“Walking celebrates our love for animals while raising the vital funds needed to ensure that every homeless animal can find a loving home,” said Kelli Schry of San Diego Humane Society, noting the event’s morning festivities “include a delicious pancake breakfast, a scenic two-mile walk, fun-filled doggie activities, an ‘Ask a Trainer’ booth and Vendor Village.”
There will be hundreds of dogs and people dressed in costumes and walking to support homeless pets, as well as doggie games and activities.
The day will begin with onsite registration, a complimentary pancake breakfast and Vendor Village activities. That will be followed by a blessing of the animals at 8:30 a.m. The walk begins at 9 a.m. and will last about an hour, to be followed by Vendor Village festivities and doggie activities continuing until noon.
Event sponsors include Petco and the Petco Foundation, VCA Animal Hospitals, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, PetSafe, Underground Elephant, Phil’s BBQ, California Coast Credit Union, NexGard and Frontline.
Participants can sign up online at www.sdhumane.org/walk to pre-register for this event or to make an online donation.
For more information or to view current animals available for adoption, visit www.sdhumane.org.
Since 1880, San Diego Humane Society’s scope of social responsibility has gone beyond adopting animals to include offering San Diegans a wide range of programs and services that strengthen the human-animal bond, prevent cruelty/neglect, provide medical care, educate the community on the humane treatment of animals and provide safety net services for all pet families needing assistance with keeping their pets.
As one of San Diego’s oldest nonprofits, San Diego Humane Society has campuses in Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego as well as adoption centers inside Petco stores.
San Diego Humane Society is supported solely through contributions, grants, bequests, investments, proceeds from the Muttique retail store and small fees for services.
