The inaugural San Diego Paws FUR Pink® 5K and 1-mile run/walk will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Liberty Station in San Diego. This dog-friendly event partially benefits Susan G. Komen San Diego to support local breast health services and celebrates the unconditional love owners share with their four-legged family members. Produced by Book That Event, LLC Paws FUR Pink® has had a presence in Orange County for the past two years and is now expanding to San Diego.
“Breast cancer has affected my life in a very unusual way,” said Jennifer Terieau. “My dog, Roxy, the poster dog for San Diego’s Paws FUR Pink, recently underwent a triple mastectomy after five hard lumps were discovered in her mammary tract.” “This event is such a great way for owners to get outdoors and exercise with their four-legged friends to make a difference in the lives of women in San Diego that are affected by breast cancer,” she said.
Partial proceeds from Paws FUR Pink® will benefit Susan G. Komen San Diego to support education, outreach, free mammograms, financial and food assistance, transportation and more. A donation of $5 per 5K and 1-mile entry fee, all fundraising pledge money raised and 5 percent of net proceeds will be allocated post-event.
Whether participants are walking to celebrate their own survival, in honor of another survivor or in memory of someone who lost their battle, each runner/walker can expect a memorable, fun-filled morning. In addition to the 5K and the 1-mile run/walk, the event features a FURever Yours Expo, Lassie Loop Lil Kids Dash, and a PAWsitively Pink Costume Contest. Participants and their four-legged friends are challenged to raise $125, the average cost of a Komen-funded mammogram. Participants who raise $125 will earn a Paws Fur Pink doggy bandana.
All events will start and finish at 2640 Historic Decatur Road at Liberty Station. Registration and packet pick-up opens at 7 a.m.
