Padres announce 2016 Spring Training schedule

The San Diego Padres recently announced the schedule for 2016 Spring Training presented by Southwest Airlines, the club’s 23rd spring in Peoria, Ariz.
Padres’ pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to Peoria on Friday, Feb. 19, with their first workout scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20.  Position players are scheduled to report on Wednesday, Feb. 24, with the club’s first full-squad workout on Thursday, Feb. 25. The team will begin its 32-game spring schedule with the annual charity game on Wednesday, March 2 as the designated road team against the Seattle Mariners at the Peoria Sports Complex.
In total, the Padres will play 16 of their 32 games next spring in Peoria, 14 as the home team. The home schedule features three night games, all of which have 7:10 p.m. MST start times: Friday, March 4 vs. Kansas City, Thursday, March 17 vs. San Francisco and Monday, March 21 vs. Cincinnati. San Diego’s Cactus League schedule features 10 meetings with National League West opponents, including three each against the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks as well as two meetings each with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The club will break camp following its Cactus League finale vs. Seattle on March 30 and will head to El Paso where the Padres will play an exhibition game against the club’s Triple-A affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas, at Southwest University Ballpark on March 31. From there, the Padres will head home to Petco Park, where they will play a pair of exhibition contests against the Chicago White Sox on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2. San Diego will have an off day on Sunday, April 3 before opening the 2016 season at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 4 with an Opening Day start time of 4:05 p.m. PT. The matchup will be one of seven season openers nationally televised on ESPN, as was announced today by Major League Baseball. FOX Sports San Diego also will televise the game locally.
Since the conclusion of Cactus League play in 2015, Peoria Stadium has undergone phase two of its renovation plan, highlighted by a new 3,300 square foot social area down the left field line that will feature an upscale catering menu, a private bar and bartender, televisions and a viewing patio. This area is available to be sold to groups of up to 150 people.
Tickets for all Padres games at the Peoria Sports Complex will go on sale online Saturday, Dec. 12 at 9 a.m. PT at www.padres.com/spring or at (800) 677-1227. The Peoria Sports Complex ticket office will open on Jan. 9, 2016 at 9 a.m. PT. Individual game tickets are priced from $7 to $32 with discounts available for advanced purchases and season ticket packages. For more information, contact the Peoria Sports Complex Box Office at (623) 773-8720.
Please see the attachment for a complete look at the Padres 2016 Spring Training schedule. The schedule is also online at www.padres.com. All elements of the schedule are subject to change. The Spring Training broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.
