Pacific Beach peeper sentenced to year in jail

A transient who pleaded guilty to three counts of window peeping of women in Pacific Beach homes was sentenced on Nov. 7 to one year in jail.
James Wayne Hubbard, 48, did not say anything before he was sentenced by San Diego Superior Court Judge Cindy Davis.
“He’ll stay about six months in custody,” said Deputy City Attorney Christina Howden.
Howden explained that Hubbard will only have to serve half of his sentence because the charges were misdemeanors. He received credit for 53 days in jail.
None of the nine victims were there and the prosecutor said none of them wanted to speak at the sentencing. Four of the victims lived in the same house.
The judge denied probation and waived imposing any fines or fees.
“All were happy he pleaded guilty,” said Howden afterwards.
“He randomly chose locations where women were,” said Howden.
Hubbard was arrested Oct. 12 by San Diego Police after women noticed he was peering into windows at night in the 1000 block of Hornblend Street and on Thomas Avenue.
A woman was breastfeeding her baby at 9:33 p.m. on the couch in her residence when she noticed a man staring directly into her window on Oct. 4, according to court records. She told police he then ran off.
The first incident occurred on Sept. 11 at 10:51 p.m. when women noticed he was smoking and loitering outside an apartment complex. When contacted by police, Hubbard said he was looking for blankets as he was homeless.
On Sept. 25, women called police at 9:44 p.m. after noticing he was looking into their windows. He told police he was ill.
When he was arrested, Hubbard said “Good, I don’t want to be around these sluts,” according to his arrest warrant declaration.
He pleaded guilty Oct. 24 to three counts of prowling and window peeping and three counts of similar charges and petty theft were dismissed. He remains in jail.
