On April 4 the San Diego Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint in Pacific Beach, in the 2700 block of Garnet Avenue. The checkpoint was made possible by a California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) “DUI Grant.” The checkpoint was operational from 11 p.m. until 3 a.m. and 1,518 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with 711 of those motorists being screened by officers. Seventeen motorists were detained for a further evaluation of their sobriety at the checkpoint, and 18 arrests were made for DUI in or near the checkpoint, with 17 vehicle impounds were also conducted.
