Pacific Beach and bay-area events, Oct. 15-23

SATURDAY, Oct. 15 The National Psoriasis Foundation will host its annual Walk to Cure Psoriasis in San Diego at Mission Bay Park’s Crown Point, located at 1799 Moorland Drive). The event will raise funds for the foundation’s research, education and advocacy programs. Psoriasis, a noncontagious, chronic disease of the immune system, appears on the skin causing red, scaly patches. These patches, often painful and itchy, can appear on any part of the body. People with psoriasis are at risk of developing other serious conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and depression. Free registration takes place at 8 a.m. with the walk beginning at 9 a.m. To register or for more information, visit walk.psoriasis.org/sdwalk or call (877) 825-WALK. THURSDAY, Oct. 20 The Mission Bay Real Estate Association (MBREA) will host its 11th annual Links for Learning charity golf tournament to benefit Pacific Beach elementary schools. The tournament is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Riverwalk Golf Course in Mission Valley. Tournament organizers said residents can assist the fundraising campaign by playing in the tournament, sponsoring a hole or donating a prize to the raffle. For $150, participants get golf and a cart, lunch, a goody bag and dinner. For those who wish to sponsor a hole, the donation is $250 and every nickel goes to the schools. For more information or to sign up a foursome, call (858) 245-1250. SUNDAY, Oct. 23

Stop Diabetes® will host “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes” at De Anza Cove on Mission Bay. The event, which is expected to draw more than 1,500 participants, is a one-day signature fundraising walk benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Every dollar raised through “Step Out” plays a role in supporting the Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. For more information, to register or to volunteer, call (888) DIABETES, or visit diabetes.org/stepoutsandiego.
