Opening Day, weekend at Del Mar Racetrack

More than 40,000 fans were expected for Opening Day at Del Mar Racetrack on Thursday, July 16, which included a hat contest and VIP party. Then on Friday, July 17, renowned rock band The Wallflowers will heat up the Seaside Stage for the first Harrah’s Friday Concert Series performance of the season.  Next up on Saturday, July 18, marks the first of two Donuts Days at Del Mar, where racing fans can get a behind-the-scenes look into the world of Thoroughbred racing, featuring Q&A sessions with famous jockeys and trainers led by track announcer Trevor Denman.
Wrapping up the weekend on Sunday, July 19, Del Mar will welcome families with Family Fun Day and a free Webkinz plush horse giveaway, plus free activities throughout the day such as pony rides, magic shows, arts and crafts and much more. Children 17 and under are free. Additionally, race fans will have the opportunity to meet and take photos with some of Del Mar’s top jockeys from noon to 1 p.m. during Jockey Photo Day.
