SAN DIEGO — County Supervisor Ron Roberts will warn parents of possible hearing loss caused by loud toys today, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. San Diego Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten and Barbara Jimenez of First Five San Diego will join him. Games, electronics and other toys can have dangerously loud sounds emitting from them, which can cause hearing loss, especially in children, according to critics. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that about five million children are affected by noise induced hearing loss, according to a memo from the County of San Diego. Roberts, along with health officials, will recommend that parents not buy toys that are excessively loud and that they check gifts for noise dangers to limit the amount of time that children spend using noisy toys.
