Authorities are trying to determine what caused an explosion that rocked a three-story Ocean Beach apartment building early May 2, leaving a big hole in the building’s northwest corner. Residents were awakened by the explosion at around 1 a.m. at 4975 Del Monte Ave. Some ventured outside on their own, while others were led out by San Diego police. “Everyone got evacuated,”resident Mark Olsen told a local television outlet, “but I came out here first to check out what was going on. So I came out, and now I can’t get back in.” San Diego Fire-Rescue crews used a chainsaw to cut away debris and to ensure the wall wasn’t on fire. No one was hurt. Inspectors eventually gave the all clear and residents were allowed to return. – 10 News
