Ocean Beach Elementary School students were treated to the sounds of the local band Gadfly on Saturday during the school’s annual PTA picnic. The event also featured Indo-Board lessons with OB Surf & Skate pros Kelsey and Natalie and a barbecue catered by the Rebekahs.
Each year, the picnic helps raise PTA membership funds.
“Most people don’t know that you can be a member of the PTA even if you don’t have a child enrolled in our school,” said OB Elementary PTA President Shelli Kurth. “You just have to be interested in our community and our kids.”
In recent years, California’s schools have come to depend on their PTAs to fund enrichment programs such as music, art, educational field trips and assemblies.
