OB Brewery’s food and view are worth the climb

Steve enjoyed himself so much at the last restaurant review I did, that he was game to try another one with me. And OB Brewery was a perfect place to go on a slightly breezy, slightly warm day.
The view on the third-floor deck is well worth the climb (the restaurant does provide an elevator). I asked the server, who must climb those steps at least a 100 times a day, if there was a “dumb waiter” available to them. He joked that “… he was the only dumb waiter there.”
The menu was more extensive than I thought it would be. There were “starters” from salads to squid, to guacamole, to chicken wings, and more. Offered were vegan, gluten-free and “could be gluten free” items, so that everyone could find something to eat.
There were “main” items from chicken to beef, to fish, to tacos, and many more. There were also “extras” available. Listed on the back of the regular menu was a brunch menu for weekends. One of the more exciting menus was a list of all of their beers, and a “special” menu with all sorts of offerings at different times of the day and week.
Although we were tempted to try one of their orders of chicken wings – three different kinds with three different sauces – we went more traditional. Steve ordered their “Bacon Street Burger” that consisted of two beef patties, Gruyere and smoked Gouda cheeses, smoked bacon, and topped with romaine, tomato, fried pickled red onion and spicy aioli. It was served on a freshly grilled “Bread and Cie” gourmet bun and a huge offering of French fries. The price was $14, and it was one of the largest hamburgers I have ever seen.
I decided to have fish and chips, and it was served with an even larger order of fries and coleslaw. The tasty fish was cod, and it was fried to perfection. The fries were seasoned with garlic, and they were tastier than just regular fries. The cost was $15.
We elected not to have one of the many beers listed and brewed there because it was the middle of the day and we both had commitments to fulfill before the day was over. But we noticed that patrons near us were enjoying varieties of the craft beer that our server was bringing up the stairs.
If for no other reason alone to visit, the view is stupendous. The food was much better than I thought it would be, and I am looking forward to returning shortly to try it again. Try it! I’m sure you will love it. OB Brewery 5041 Newport Ave.
