All San Diego Public Libraries will be closed on November 24th, in observance of Thanksgiving. 

November Events

Date:  Tuesdays, November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, 2022
Time:  4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Title:  Chess Club
Have you always wanted to learn how to play chess or improve your skills? If you have never played before, or are just looking for someone to practice with, join us for some friendly competition!  All supplies are provided.

Audience:  Recommended for elementary school-aged children through adults.

 

Date:  Wednesday, November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2022
Time:  10:30 a.m.
Title:  Dance Pants Party
Recommended for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary-school age kids, this simple dance program will feature “The Wheels on the Bus,” “Baby Shark,” and more. Families, it’s time to get your groove on!  Please note: this program will be held outdoors.

Audience:  Recommended for ages 1+.

Dates: Thursday, November 3, 10 and 17, 2022
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Title: Toddler and Preschool Storytime
Description: Recommended for ages 2-5, this storytime program includes books, songs, games, and early literacy fun! Please note: this program will be held outdoors.
Audience: Children

Dates: Saturday, November 5, 2022
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Title: Micro-aggressions and Hurtful Speech:  How to Take a Stand for Teens and Tweens

Description:  All of us have been in situations where we have heard hateful comments or witnessed mean behavior. If you are a bystander who sees harmful speech directed at an individual or a group, you can find ways to make a positive difference. Learn how to create more inclusive environments that embrace diversity and foster a sense of belonging in this interactive workshop.  Registration is strongly encouraged, but not required.  You can pre-register at sandiego.librarymarket.com.
Audience: 
Recommended for ages 10-17

Date: Saturday, November 12, 2022
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Title: 
Make Your Own Decorative Spanish Tile
Description: Art for Education will teach you about the geometric and floral art of Spanish tiles and then show you step-by-step how to create your own! This class is recommended for ages 10+. Registration is required.  You can register at sandiego.librarymarket.com.
Audience: Children and teens ages 10+

Date:  Monday, November 14, 2022
Time:  4:00 p.m.
Title:  Mission Valley Kids Book and Craft Club
Join us the second Monday of every month for an entertaining book club where we’ll discuss a great kids book, do a related craft, and enjoy snacks. The book for November is I Can Make This Promise, by Christine Day, and free copies are available at the library for participating kids while supplies last.  Contact the library at 858-573-5007 for more information. 
Audience: This program is recommended for readers ages 8-11.

Date:  Tuesday, November 15, 2022
Time:  1:00 p.m.
Title:  Oasis Presents:  The Lost Towns of San Diego County
Communities like Bernardo, Merton, Stowe and Bostonia disappeared decades ago. Yet these places once bustled with life, each boasting its own school, general store, often a stagecoach or railroad stop. Historian Vincent Rossi will share photos, maps and stories of daily life in a different era from his research into these lost towns.  This event is free and open to the public, and there is no need to pre-register.

Audience:  Recommended for adults.

Dates: Saturday, November 19, 2022
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Title: Library NExT Presents:  Virtual Rocket Science

Description:  Get ready to explore current rocket science and rocket design. The class will culminate in the creation and launch of a testable paper rocket model. Earth-bound space exploration has never been so fun! Registration is required for this is a virtual workshop, and supplies will be sent to your closest library for pickup.  You can pre-register at sandiego.librarymarket.com.
Audience: Grades 3 through 5.

Date: Saturday, November 19, 2022
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Title: All Girls STEM Presents:  Machine Learning!
Location: Community Room
Description:  Welcome to the future! Can a computer “learn” to do something new without being programmed by a human to do it?
