Deanne Ross, owner of the ACT II women’s clothing resale store on La Mesa Boulevard, was one of more than 30,000 official participants in this year’s Boston Marathon.

Ross finished the 26.2-mile race in 3 hours, 44 minutes and 38 seconds — an average pace of 8 minutes and 35 seconds per mile — according to the official results posted online.
Ross, who qualified for Boston with her performance at the Carlsbad Half Marathon, was up against weather conditions much harsher than anything she was used to at home.
“It was super rainy and windy and freezing cold,” she said. “I got a good time considering the weather.”
Even for Boston, the rain was a rare event, but it didn’t stop the thousands of spectators who lined up, sometimes 10 people deep, all along the course to cheer for the runners.
“It was incredible,” Ross said. “Nothing could prepare you for this. You felt like you were in the Olympics for running.”
Ross said any runner who has the opportunity to participate in the Boston Marathon should go for it.
