Unknown woman beaten in alley
Police are searching for an assailant who beat a woman on Oct. 6, leaving her unconscious in an alley behind 7565 La Jolla Blvd.
A person walking near the alley around 7:30 a.m. saw what they described as “an unconscious woman who looked beaten up,” said Sgt. G. Collins of the San Diego Police Department.
The woman was taken to the hospital by paramedics but had failed to regain consciousness as of Oct. 9, Collins said.
It is not known who the woman is or whether she has recovered at this time.

Prudential partners with Surfrider for Cleanup Day
Volunteers from Prudential California Realty will team with the Surfrider Foundation on Saturday, Oct. 13 for a massive, 350-mile-long Coastal Cleanup Day that will include La Jolla and Ocean Beach.
The event is part of a major cleanup of the California coastline that organizers are saying “is one of unmatched magnitude.”
The cleanup, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon, focuses on eight beach and coastal areas, including Torrey Pines State Beach and Ocean Beach.
“Our cleanup efforts, in concert with the Surfrider Foundation, help us give back to the communities in which we live, work and play,” said Steve Rodgers, president and CEO of Prudential California Realty. “We believe providing an environmentally responsible example now and for the next generation is of the essence.”

Construction continues on Genesee Avenue
The City of San Diego will continue to work to relieve traffic congestion that has built up on Genesee Avenue from two major hospitals.
From Campus Point Drive to Interstate 5, Genesee Avenue will be filled with construction crews, as the four-lane road gains two more lanes.
Creators of the $4.2 million project are hopeful that the hassle for commuters will pay off in the end, with improved traffic flow and less traffic congestion along Genesee Avenue, said the office of District 1 City Councilman and Council President Scott Peters.
This month, Genesee Avenue will be subject to construction delays Mondays through Fridays, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During the second and third weeks of October, night work is scheduled Mondays through Fridays from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
West Coast General Corporation, the contractors working on Genesee, will use the month of October to excavate and replace storm drains, add a right-turn lane at Campus Point Drive and a northbound right-turn lane at Scripps Hospital Drive, add guard rails, work on landscaping and work on the median while re-striping the overpass bridge. They will also add a westbound left-turn lane.
The company plans to use night hours to install backflow prevention devices at Scripps Hospital Drive; work on the curbs and the gutters; maintain and install erosion control measures throughout the area; and to continue to plant landscaping, Peters’ office said.

PLNU offers electronics recycling
Officials at Point Loma Nazarene University are working to take the lead on the environment and preserving natural resources with an annual Creation Care Week.
As part of the overall theme, several public events are being held to raise awareness and increase participation in conservation and preservation, including tours of the city’s wastewater treatment facility in Point Loma, native plant walks and a panel discussion with experts on the impact of local climate change, said university officials.
A La Jolla Shores Beach cleanup was held last Saturday, Oct. 6.
Although technically a part of Creation Care Week, a separate electronic recycling event is planned for Saturday, Oct. 13. Residents are encouraged to drop off old computer monitors, CRT and plasma screens, printers, copiers, fax machines and the like from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Point Loma Nazarene University, 3900 Lomaland Drive.
