Man stabbed at Black’s Beach
A gang of men attacked a group of people participating in a drum circle at Black’s Beach about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, kicking and punching the victims before eventually stabbing one, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police said a group of thin, bald white men attacked a group of people walking along the beach.
“During the fight, one of the suspects took out a knife and stabbed one of the victims in the side,” the police report said. “The victim was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.”
The Black’s Beach Full Moon Drum Circle was begun in 1994 by the San Diego Rainbow Family Full Moon Circle, which later sought to end the Black’s Beach practice amid incidents involving alcohol-fueled violence.
“On each full moon,” the group’s Web site says, “people gather to camp out and drum until well into the night or even the following morning. Since early 2007, this even has become increasingly out of control and even violent”¦ .”
Police are investigating the incident.
The Rainbow Family group continues to organize other drum circles around the county.
