Businesses host Jingle on Girard
The first annual Jingle on Girard will take place Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event will encompass the west side of the 7600 block of Girard Avenue.
Participating merchants will set up tables with red cloths filled with holiday specials and treats. Music will play along Girard, and local students will offer free gift-wrapping.
Balloons and refreshments will be available for children, while adults can enjoy discounts and chair massages.
Businesses taking part in Jingle on Girard include Pharmaca, Massage Envy, Bank of America, Cabochon Tile, Past and Presence, Café Lavande, La Jolla FiberArts, nestlife, Draper’s & Damon’s, Brennen Collection and Everett Stunz.

Historic chapel at Liberty Station to host tours
The historic Navy North Chapel at Liberty Station in Point Loma was recently restored and will be open for tours Dec. 15 and 29, from 9 to 11 a.m.
The chapel was built in 1942 and was restored by C.W. Clark Inc.
It now features an updated sound system that is available for musical events, concerts, weddings, memorial services and other nondenominational events.
People who attend the tours will enjoy the sound of the original Rogers pipe organ and the sight of stained glass and hand-carved pews.

Giant Panda cub gets name
The San Diego Zoo announced on Monday, Nov. 26 that the now 18-week-old giant panda cub would be named Zhen Zhen.
After sorting through more than 2,400 names submitted by San Diego Zoo visitors, the zoo’s giant panda team narrowed the names down to four and gave people all over the world the opportunity to vote for their favorite.
The Chinese Wildlife Conservation Association approved the four finalist names.
Zhen Zhen, which means precious, garnered more than 50,000 votes at 36 percent.
This is the first time the zoo has given the public an opportunity to be heavily involved in the naming of the giant panda cub.
Zhen Zhen has not yet made her public debut. As of Nov. 28, the cub had taken her first steps and received the last in a series of vaccinations to protect her from disease.
Zhen Zhen and her mother Bai Yun can be viewed 24 hours a day through the zoo’s Panda Cam at www.sandiegozoo.org.
The date of her public debut is still unknown. Officials say mom Bai Yun will decide when the cub is ready to venture out of the den.
