Air up the tires for Bike to Work Day
If exercise and fresh air isn’t enough incentive to leave the car parked and hop on a bike, a $4 gallon of gas is definitely a nice motivator to switch to pedal power.
For first-timers, the timing perfect: Friday, May 16, is Bike to Work Day, and cyclists will receive a number of perks for trading four wheels for two, including free snacks and refreshments at the more than 40 pit stops around the county and the chance to win a number of prizes.
“[Participants] have the opportunity to win a number of gift cards to REI, zoo and Wild Animal Park passes and Bike to Work Day T-shirts,” said Colleen Windsor, communication director for SANDAG.
Anyone with a bicycle can also ride city buses and the trolley for free that day.
Pit stops will be set up at Fiesta Island, Old Town Transit Center, San Diego State University, UCSD parking lot P406 at Gilman Drive and Villa Jolla La Drive and La Jolla Colony at 7708 Regents Road.
