Moores Cancer Center hosts ‘Rabbit’ reading
Storyteller Miss Leah will read the classic children’s book “The Velveteen Rabbit” this afternoon, Nov. 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center, 3855 Health Sciences Drive.
The reading is presented by the Light One Little Candle Foundation, founded last year by La Jollan Shirley Tulin to collect donated books for children whose parents have cancer. The patients are encouraged to read to their children as a way of bonding during what can be a difficult time for many families.
“The Velveteen Rabbit” reading, which will take place in the Commons area of the cancer center, will include light refreshments and information on how to volunteer for or contribute to the Light One Little Candle program.
For information call Charlotte Perry, (858) 454-7798, or visit www.lightonelittlecandle.org.

Postal Annexes collect children’s books
Several Postal Annex centers in San Diego will celebrate Children’s Book Week by collecting children’s books that will be given to libraries, schools, daycare facilities and hospitals.
The books can be dropped off through Nov. 18.
Beach-area locations include Postal Annex of La Jolla, 7514 Girard Ave., No. 1, (858) 456-3935; Postal Annex of San Diego, 4203 Genesee Ave., (858) 541-1882; Postal Annex of San Diego, 2907 Shelter Island Drive, No. 105, (619) 224-9930; and Postal Annex of San Diego at 1666 Garnet Ave., (858) 483-6001.
Children’s Book Week was established in 1919 as a way to stimulate young people’s imaginations.

Blood donors will receive Chargers T-shirts
The San Diego Blood Bank has teamed up with the Chargers to give donors a free long-sleeved powder-blue Chargers Blood Drive T-shirt and VIP admission to the team autograph session.
The official Charger Blood Drive is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Town & Country Convention Center, 500 Hotel Circle North, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. All donors will receive a shirt and a VIP wristband for the autograph line.
Because of the large crowd expected for the blood drive, the Blood Bank is offering a voucher for a Chargers shirt and the wristband for anyone who donates before the event.
For information and a list of donor times and sites, visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
